Jobseekers’ note Part.2 (A “Job-Applying” Addiction)

It had been around 10  pm when I was still preparing the stuffs for attending job fair tomorrow. I even coldn’t remember how many times I have to print, copy, and tidy up my job application. I even had made one hundred copy of my CV!.

I was also feel tired going back to my campuss for making legalisation of my academic transcript and graduation letter (since I haven’t received my certificate yet, It’s still prepared by the university).
After I had finished my thesis about 3 months ago I am now get busy preparing job application and anything related to it. I begin to read the jobs and interview tips articles in internet.  I take TOEFL test, I also buy some books about psychotest tips and some books related to the job industry I will apply into.
This job seeking activity start to dominate my whole activity now. I dedicate most of my time after finishing thesis for applying a job. I still remember when I just had presented my thesis in front of my lecture and I was decided by them to pass (I cried at that time-), I straigthly started to search for a job. What a rushed person I am!.

And still now, my job seeking activity doesn’t stopped yet. In one side, I thing I make this too excessive . I camp it up. I become addicted in this job seeking activity. Even I feel tired for making my CV, printing it, and preparing other supporting stuffs, deep inside I like doing these. I don’t know whether it is because I am a person who forcely try every opportunities and too ambitious to reach something
But in the other side, I know that I shouldn’t make it too complicated. I should be focus, efficent also effective. I admit that I am a compulsive person that always want to try every job opportunities that come. I always read and collect every job advertising and I always apply to those. I am miscount of  many job application I have sent. I even had been called for an interview in several companies.

First, in Mandiri Bank. Usually, in a job interview I am asked about my self, my previous experiences in doing internship or in school activitiy and what will I do in the companies the interviewer asked. I also asked whether I will be placed outside my hometown. I answered to the Mandiri man that interviewed me that my preferences to be placed outside is only 50%. And after that i didn’t pass.

Second, in Metro TV, I failed at the psychotest. Maybe not my luck. Third, in UNGC (United Nation Glocal Compact). Yeah, I really prody to be interviewed there. But, at that time I didn’t know much about the institution. So I didn’t feel like I will take the offer. And now I am  feel dissapointed for missing the opportunity because It is a well known institution and even it is under UN authority. Hiks...

I even had been interviewed in an unrecognized company. I don’t want to state the name but you have to warn about them. It is a recruitment firm and they are usually employ person based on a contract and you’ll be distributed to other company that become their client with contract based. Uggh....I hope I don’t get any called from an recruitment firm like that.

But, when I am called for every interview I don’t feel like I am ready for the job. It is because I still want to prepare and apply for another job opportunities. Deep inside in my mind, I think if I take the job I won’t be able to arrange for another job applications. Whereas, the truth is I have to focus and It is not important to apply for every job opportunites and attend every job fair events.

I take a lesson from this that even therea are many job advertisement around there and many job fair event conducted in our city,

It is not necessary to apply every of those job opportunities  and attending every job fair events. It is more important to ask yourself about what the job criteria you want and where will you probably work. Before starting applying a job, we must have decided our job preferences, maybe if you are a graduate from social sciences what the job criteria you want to do in the future.

Whether you want to work in the position that in line with your background or you more prefer to try other fields. It is depend in yourself and what you want to be in the future. So, read your diary again, ask yourself about what is your dream career and what will you be in the future.

One thing that is more important is deciding your job location preference. Are you oke if you are asked to be traveled outside your city or even be placed outside your city?. For female employee being placed outside her city maybe become hard and difficult but for male employee it is not really matter and can become a challenging tasks for them. If you don’t decide it well or you haven’t talk to your parents I can make sure that you will make wrong decision when you got interview. If you just say that you’ll be able to be placed outside your hometown when you are asked with an interviewer in order to attract them you will be dissapointed after that.

I learn that it is important also to make your priority. You may apply your job application massively and repeteadly but you must choose your very selection companies or institutions. Maybe you have apply in every places but you know that working in Company A, R, or F will be more beneficial because there are have well known, they paid well, and your qualification really match to their requirements. So, don’t just select one selection, make it more but don’t too much.

I know and I have to confess that I also apply to not so well known companies and I very dissapointed after that knowing that they are an unrecognized institution and the salary is not beneficial. Once if you have called to an interview in an institition that well enough you may consider its offer to be continued as their staff. Yeah, even you know you are still waiting for another job interview from your previous selection companies you may consider that come first. It is good if they are not employ a person too fast and give time for announcing the interview result.

In brief, even there are many job opportunities around there we have to decide and make our preference first before starting sending application sporadicaly. As a young person, it is natural that we always want to try every opportunity but we have to know first about the institution. We must examine the company and think whether its job offer  will be fit for us.

I know that I am addicted this “job-applying” activity  but I know I shouldn’t have to send all my application. I have to do it wise, focus, and know when to stop. If I have got an interview. I should consider about it and don’t just feel unready for the opportunity. This time I should be ready to start work than being busy apply a job. This “job-applying” activity is costly too, doesn’t it?, I mean for buying an envelope and paying the delivery fee.

So, for every job seeker around there. Don’t be too compulsive trying every job opportunities. Just be focus and keep ready for a job. You will get a job faster than a person who sporadicaly sending application that will be costly.

For a jobseeker that have applying and sending application several times but still don’t get an interview called, don’t be dissapointed. The good thing will come in a best time. You still have to try and focus on our job selection. Remember, we all have to be alert to a job interview from recruitment firm that employ with a contract based because sometimes they are all unrecognized and always ask money as a submission cost.
